Advancing health equity during National Rural Health Day
________________________________________________________________________
Each year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH) celebrates National Rural Health Day [ https://www.cms.gov/priorities/health-equity/minority-health/resource-center/resource-center/health-observances ] by raising awareness about health care challenges people in rural areas, Tribal nations, territories, and geographically isolated communities often face. People living in rural communities tend to be older and in poorer health than people living in urban areas, and they often face disparities in access to care. We work throughout the year to address these challenges for the more than 61 million Americans who live in rural areas, by publishing data and resources to help all residents achieve their best health.
CMS OMH aims to advance health equity for people in rural areas by sharing resources to better understand the disparities that exist and reduce gaps in care. We recently released our annual summary report, Advancing Health Equity in Rural, Tribal, and Geographically Isolated Communities: FY The report outlines the actions CMS has taken over the past year to support the health needs of rural communities and address barriers to care. We also recently published , which summarizes the quality of health care delivered to Medicare enrollees nationwide and examines differences in health care experiences in both rural and urban areas.
On National Rural Health Day and every day, CMS recognizes the importance of helping rural communities receive quality health care. We encourage you to share the resources below to support the health of the rural communities you serve.
