*1/24/2025 - Splunk Prod - Resize the Splunk Prod instances from 120 x 24XL's to 66 x 24XL's*

 

*Summary*

The CMS Hybrid Cloud team will scale down Splunk indexer infrastructure as part of post Open Enrollment (OE) resizing. This is the *second *of a scale down event.

The team will be taking an iterative approach scaling down a small number of indexers at a time and waiting for rebalancing to complete before moving on to the next group.  The team will scale down between 6 and 18 indexers this weekend depending on the time to complete each event cycle. We are taking this approach to minimize any potential search latency.

 

*Actions we are taking*


* Downscaling Splunk indexers.
* Splunk and ITSI will be placed in maintenance mode during each downscale event.
* Part 1 - Reducing the number of indexers from 120 to 84.  *Completed* on 1/17/2025
* Part 2 - Reducing the number of indexers from 84 to 66.  Starting on 1/24/2025

*When is this happening?*

Start Time: Friday, 1/24/25 at 6:00 pm ET
End Time: Sunday 1/26/2025 at 11:00 pm ET

*Who will be impacted?*
DRaaS ITSI, MITG MSI and EMM may have performance impacts when the Cloud Splunk indexers are being configured. Also, CCIC search heads peered to the Splunk environment might be impacted.

*What is the impact?*
There will be latency in adhoc searches that are performed by customers. Dashboards might also render slowly and have incomplete data while the changes are being propagated.

1/30/2025 - Tenable Security Center Minor Version Upgrade

*Summary:*

Maintenance on Tenable Security Center tool for upgrade from v.6.3.0 to v.6.5.1.

*Actions we are taking*

Minor version upgrade to Tenable Security Center

*When is this happening?*

Start Time: Thursday, 1/30/2025 at 11:00 a.m. ET
End Time: Thursday, 1/30/2025 at 6:00 p.m. ET

*Who will be impacted?*

All AWS Commercial, AWS GovCloud, MAG and DRaaS/IaaS accounts; all customers using Tenable tool.

*What is the impact? *

All customers may have scans delayed within all environments until the upgrade is complete. The customer impact to an outage is low as findings are still available in customer dashboards like Security Hub, Splunk, and Jira. Adhoc scan requests will be unavailable, but can be completed following a successful upgrade. Tenable scans will be halted until the upgrade process is complete. This change will occur during business hours to minimize the impact because most scans run outside of business hours.

Special Outage Notification:

*VDI End User Update:*

On Saturday, January 25th between 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, the VDI End User Team will update Citrix NetScaler load balancers and create an HA pair.

*Impact:*

There is a potential for temporary outage during reboot of the appliances. During the execution of this CR, end users may get kicked from VDI, if so, logging back in should resolve the issue.
