WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor and Kenya’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection today signed a memorandum of understanding to advance labor cooperation between the two countries.Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee and Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Labor and Social Protection Alfred N. Mutua met for a signing ceremony at the ministry’s Nairobi headquarters.“The Biden-Harris administration has prioritized deepening U.S. relations with African countries to advance our shared priorities,” said Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee. “Through dialogue, sharing experiences and learning from each other, we will promote decent work, protect internationally recognized worker rights and promote equitable, inclusive and sustainable economic development in the U.S. and Kenya.”The collaboration will promote cooperation between the two countries to advance workers’ rights in areas such as making workplaces safer and healthier, preventing child labor and forced labor, strengthening consultation on multilateral policy issues and improving workers’ compensation systems.
