The MCBS Roundup is a bi-monthly digest of recent product announcements from the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS).
*Women’s Health Data Book and an accompanying PUF*
December 20, 2024: CMS released its first-ever MCBS 2022 Women’s Health Data Book and Executive Summary [ https://www.cms.gov/data-research/research/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey/data-briefs-tutorials/mcbs-2022-womens-health-data-book-and-executive-summary ] on the experiences of women in the Medicare program and an accompanying public use file [ https://www.cms.gov/data-research/research/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey/data-tables/2022-socio-demographic-and-health-characteristics-medicare-beneficiaries-sex-puf ]. This data book reports the percentages of Medicare beneficiaries living in the community – broken out by sex – who report certain physical and mental conditions, living conditions, and conditions that impact access to care and health outcomes (e.g., affordability, transportation) using data from 2022.

*2023 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) Survey File – Early Release LDS – Now Available*
The MCBS Survey File – Early Release [ https://www.cms.gov/data-research/research/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey/data-documentation-codebooks/2023-mcbs-survey-file-early-release ] includes select microdata from the 2023 MCBS Survey File LDS and is available to researchers on an expedited schedule. To request access to the LDS, researchers must agree to certain data privacy/security requirements and data use policies by signing a Data Use Agreement with CMS.

Users can download Survey File [ https://data.cms.gov/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey-mcbs/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey-survey-file ] (2013, 2015-2022), Cost Supplement [ https://data.cms.gov/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey-mcbs/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey-cost-supplement ] (2018-2021), and COVID-19 Supplement [ https://data.cms.gov/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey-mcbs/medicare-current-beneficiary-survey-covid-19-supplement ] (2020-2021) Microdata PUFs from this platform.
