Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is highlighting several data products the agency released during the month of May:

*Medicare Fee-for-Service Geographic Variation Public Use Files **- Annual Update*

The Medicare Fee-for-Service Geographic Variation Public Use Files [ https://data.cms.gov/summary-statistics-on-use-and-payments/medicare-geographic-comparisons/medicare-geographic-variation-by-national-state-county ] now contain demographic, spending, utilization, and quality indicators for the Medicare Fee-for-Service population for calendar year 2022.  Notably, metrics that were derived using Berenson-Eggers Type of Service (BETOS) codes have been updated to the Restructured BETOS Classification System (RBCS) Taxonomy for calendar years 2014-2022. 

*Medicare Advantage Utilization Public Data **– Annual and New Updates*

The following Medicare Advantage (MA) public data products now contain MA utilization data for inpatient hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, physicians, non-physician practitioners, suppliers, and outpatient facilities for calendar years 2016-2021:


* The Medicare Advantage Geographic Variation PUF (MA GV PUF) [ https://data.cms.gov/summary-statistics-on-use-and-payments/medicare-geographic-comparisons/medicare-advantage-geographic-variation-national-state ] includes utilization data for Medicare beneficiaries who have both Part A and Part B coverage and are enrolled in an MA plan for the entire time they are eligible for Medicare.
* The CMS Program Statistics (CPS) [ https://data.cms.gov/collection/cms-program-statistics ] reports include utilization reported in the MA encounter data for all Medicare beneficiaries who had any MA enrollment in the year.

*Medicare Enrollment – Monthly Update*

The Medicare Monthly Enrollment file [ https://data.cms.gov/summary-statistics-on-beneficiary-enrollment/medicare-and-medicaid-reports/medicare-monthly-enrollment ] presents Medicare enrollment by geographic area and now includes enrollee counts for February 2024.
