Successor Models, Scaling Pathways and the CMS Innovation Center

Successor Models, Scaling Pathways and the CMS Innovation Center

How does the CMS Innovation Center use what we learn from model tests to inform subsequent models and ultimately advance health care transformation?

A blog published today, “Successor Models, Scaling Pathways and the CMS Innovation Center [ https://www.cms.gov/blog/successor-models-scaling-pathways-and-cms-innovation-center ],” describes the Center’s efforts to iteratively test concepts and build on lessons learned from an originator model to successor models. The Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM) [ https://www.cms.gov/priorities/innovation/innovation-models/team-model ], for example, was informed by previous episode-based payment models that generated both gross savings and increased discharges to home from the hospital.

The blog also describes how the CMS Innovation Center leverages lessons learned from models to chart a path to what ultimately might be expanded or scaled nationally to Medicare and Medicaid programs.
