Overview 

Below you will find this month's updates for CMS Gold Images (GIs) from the CMS Hybrid Cloud Team.

Upcoming Updates

* *New Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023) CMS GI available July 2024:*
* In anticipation of the Amazon Linux 2 (AL2) end-of-life (EOL) in 2025, the CMS Hybrid Cloud Team has created the AL2023 CMS GI.
* This provides our CMS customers around a year to transition from AL2.

* The CMS AL2023 GI will be available in the July GI monthly release, on Friday, July 12, 2024.
* Refer to our Accessing Gold Images [ https://cloud.cms.gov/accessing-gold-images ] documentation for assistance with intaking GIs.

* *CMS Cloud will not be providing managed patching for AL2023 GIs at this time.*
* As a result, CMS customers utilizing AL2023 must either self-patch or intake the latest monthly AL2023 CMS GI releases.
* At this time, the new AL2023 CMS GI is only to be utilized for non-production environments.
* Additional details and timeline will be provided in a future, separate communication.

* Benefits of the new CMS AL2023 GI include additional applied security hardening, use of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) over legacy BIOS, and more!

Gold Image Accessibility

CMS GI availability is based on the respective team's CAMP details. If a team would like to request a new CMS GI, please open a Hybrid Cloud Support Jira Ticket [ https://jiraent.cms.gov/plugins/servlet/desk/portal/22 ] and notify the designated IUSG Advisor.

"*Reminder:* The last" "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL7) CMS GI was published in March 2024. As RHEL7 reached EOL in June 2024, please reach out to the CMS Hybrid Cloud Team for any help upgrading to RHEL8."
