The release coincided with World AIDS Day, as part of CMS’ commitment to raising awareness of HIV/AIDS.
*CMS Marks National Influenza Vaccination Week with Information on Importance of Getting the Flu Shot *
December 2: CMS' Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH) marked National Influenza Vaccination Week (December 2-6) by posting information [ https://www.cms.gov/priorities/health-equity/minority-health/resource-center/resource-center/health-observances ] highlighting vaccine disparities and encouraging everyone to get their flu shot, which can reduce the risk of illness, hospitalization, and death.
*CMS Releases Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model Evaluation Report*
December 5: CMS released the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) Model: Performance Year Six Evaluation Report [ https://www.cms.gov/priorities/innovation/data-and-reports/2024/cjr-py6-ar-findings-aag ]. The evaluation report presents results for the first year of the CJR model extension (performance year six) after significant changes to the CJR model [ https://www.cms.gov/priorities/innovation/innovation-models/cjr ] were implemented. The revisions to the CJR model generated net savings of $54.2 million for Medicare in performance year six while maintaining the quality of care for patients.
*Data Brief Details Maternal Morbidity, Pre-Term Birth Trends in Births Covered by Medicaid & CHIP *
December 5: CMS released a data brief [ https://www.medicaid.gov/medicaid/data-and-systems/downloads/macbis/2021-mtrnl-hlth-eqty-brf.pdf ] describing Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollees, ages 15 to 49, who had a live birth covered by Medicaid or CHIP in 2021 and experienced either a preterm birth or a severe maternal morbidity condition in that year. The data include figures showing year-to-year trends from 2019 and 2020 compared to 2021. The release of this data brief is part of CMS’ ongoing efforts to measure disparities in health outcomes and access to care and to make focused, evidence-based investments to improve health equity for individuals covered by Medicaid and CHIP.
*CMS Announces its Framework for Improving Health Care Delivery and Care Experience*
December 9: CMS announced its "Optimizing Care Delivery: A Framework for Improving the Health Care Experience." The framework [ https://www.cms.gov/priorities/key-initiatives/burden-reduction/optimizing-care-delivery-framework ] lays out CMS’ five-year strategy for improving health care delivery and the care experience by addressing administrative burdens and other frictions in the programs it oversees as well as the health system more broadly.
