WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of $5 million to the International Labour Organization to address child and forced labor and improve working conditions in select supply chains in Brazil, as well as other Latin American countries and the Caribbean. Administered by the Bureau of International Labor Affairs, this project will enlist government, employers and workers’ organizations to address labor rights challenges in supply chains via negotiated sector-specific pacts. The project will bolster collaboration among these pact members, build their capacity, enhance engagement with local community organizations and other labor stakeholders. The project aims to increase worker voice throughout select supply chains. The project is a key part of the department’s work under the Partnership for Workers’ Rights, a joint global initiative launched by the U.S. and Brazilian governments in 2023.
