A Global Affirmation of Disability Rights
Assistant Secretary of labor Taryn M. Willams in Italy with members of the U.S. delegation to the G7 Ministerial Meeting on Inclusion and Disability.
In October, a congress of delegations from around the world convened in Italy for the first-ever G7 Ministerial Meeting on Inclusion and Disability. Our Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Taryn M. Williams joined the U.S. delegation to help elevate conversations about disability inclusion to the global stage, including the right of all people to participate fully in civil, social and political life in every country. The three-day event was attended not only by ministers and leaders, but also by an international community of disabled people—“real people whose real stories illustrate our commonalities and our shared humanity,” said Assistant Secretary Williams. “The event genuinely reflected who we talk about when we talk about people with disabilities.” Click below for more of the Assistant Secretary’s personal reflections about the G7 event. Hiring managers in the federal government can access the 2025 Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) talent database beginning Monday, December 16. The new database holds the WRP’s largest candidate pool to date—more than 4,000 graduate and undergraduate students and recent graduates with disabilities, from more than 500 colleges and universities nationwide. Federal employers can search the WRP database for skilled candidates who are ready to fill internships or permanent jobs and are eligible to be hired quickly through the Schedule A hiring authority. Register today for the WRP’s federal employer training webinar on Tuesday, December 17, at 1 p.m. ET. [ https://usdolevents.webex.com/weblink/register/r762e99befce9586b18af0c5d6ee6cf5e ]

Submit Your Comments: Ending Pay Inequity for Disabled Workers
Six warehouse workers of different genders and racial backgrounds, one of whom has a disability, pose for a photo in safety vests and hard hats.
Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) proposed a rule that would end subminimum-wage pay for people with disabilities. The rule proposes to gradually eliminate the use of certificates under Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act that allow employers to pay disabled workers less than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour in certain circumstances. DOL now invites public comments on the proposed rule. Submit your thoughts by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025. “Good Jobs Change Lives” Webinar: Watch the Recording Today
The Department of Labor Presents a Virtual NDEAM Event. Good Jobs Change Lives. Helping Disabled Workers Get Ahead.
Unprecedented federal investments in infrastructure, manufacturing and clean energy are creating good jobs that pay family-sustaining wages, offer safe workplaces and provide strong civil rights protections. More than ever before, we are seeing opportunities in these key industries to expand access to good jobs for people with disabilities. During National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October, the U.S. Department of Labor and federal partners hosted a webinar on how employers can hire and retain the talented people they need, including workers with disabilities. In case you missed it, the recording is now available online to stream. [ https://www.dol.gov/agencies/odep/featured/NDEAM2024EventPage ]
